CAREER
Oprah started her career after college graduation in 1971 working at a Nashville radio station reading the news. A few years later she became Nashville's first African American TV correspondent and was the youngest person to co-anchor the news for WTVF, a CBS-affiliated television station in 1973. She held this position for a period of 3 years. Eager to further her career, she hosted a TV show called "People Are Talking" which aired in 1976. In 1984, she relocated to Chicago to host her own AM television show. After the first year on the air, the show was renamed, what is most commonly known today as "The Oprah Winfrey Show". This show aired for a period of 25 years. Throughout her career, she has starred and debuted in several movies. She is the winner of 45 Emmy Awards for her outstanding abilities. In 1994, President Clinton signed the "Oprah Bill" which is a nation wide database for convicted child abusers.Oprah herself was an abused child. In 2000, Oprah created her own magazine which was noted as one of the most successful launches in recent history. Oprah currently owns and works for her own network called "OWN", The Oprah Winfrey Network.
